Maya Joshi, founder of Mayaz Masti Dance Academy, began teaching in 1995 back in New York. At that time Maya was a full time homemaker who had won multiple garba and dance competitions all over Mumbai. She has been awarded first prize best dancer by celebrities like Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan in some of the most prestigious dance and garba competitions in Mumbai. 

Her first three choreographies immediately won the first prize in NY and NJ and the Indian Cultural Society of NY won their first ever best dance performance and best choreographer first place prizes. 

As time passed, Maya gave birth to 5 wonderful children and in spite of being a mother of 5 she never gave up her passion for dancing and choreography. Every year Mayaz Masti Dance Academy would win prizes and Maya would be selected as the best choreographer. In 2007, Maya was invited as a judge in the very competitions she was participating in. During this time as her children were growing up, they began dancing. 

Her daughter Aashka Joshi began learning from her mother at the age of 3 and quickly found a love for dance. Always taking the extra step to get better, Aashka participated in groups that were her age and above her age. 

Quickly her love for dance turned to passion when she began teaching with her Mom. Starting with shadowing dance classes at 13 with her mom to learn the ways, she started teaching and choreographing at 14. By the age of 15 she had quickly learnt the ways and took more responsibility upon her shoulders. At 16, the family had moved from NY to OH and started their Columbus branch within 3 months. 

Aashka’s passion for dance was not limited to just Bollywood but she took classes at the Ohio State University to grow her knowledge of dance. Seeing her passion for dancing and her extreme desire to inculcate multiple forms of dancing in the same performance, her father who is a writer started helping her create dance dramas which would have interesting storylines with a message. Since these dance dramas could accommodate multiple songs and multiple storylines giving it various emotions it gave Aashka the opportunity to choreograph various dance forms in the same performance. Aashka finished her education with a minor in dance. She is also constantly learning new dance forms and updating herself with various dance cultures throughout the world.
