What kind of dance do you teach?

Here at Mayaz Masti Dance Academy we teach our students the basics of beats and Bollywood dance choreography. As students grow we move further into the intricacies of Bollywood dance and begin incorporating elements of Hiphop, Contemporary, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Garba and Bhangra to create a fusion style of dance.

What is a dance drama? What kind of dance dramas have you done?

A dance drama is a 15-20 minute dance performance in which a story is being told. Previously we have performed The Epic Tale of Lord Ganesh where we depicted the story of how Lord Ganesh was born. We performed The Unbelievable Story of India’s Freedom Struggle where we portrayed how the great soul Mahatma Gandhi brought India to freedom through a nonviolent movement. Most recently we performed The Legacy of Sacrifice where we illustrate how during COVID-19 our doctors put their lives on the line selflessly to save us. We dedicated this specific dance drama to Dr. Sandeep Dave who went out on the streets of Ahmedabad to treats those who couldn’t get admission into hospitals. With our dance dramas we strive to share our culture, a message that will sit with everyone who watched it and inspire our students and community to be the best version of themselves.

How do you emphasize team bonding?

As we all know there is no I in team, our dance family is a team that strives to have every child bring out their best potential. Through fun activities we teach out students how our we are all the best and how we are better together. Through choreography exercises we have students work in teams to ensure they are building team chemistry and learning how to work in a group! We also emphasize that our classes is a no judgement zone and students are encouraged to try new things and they are supported by the rest of the class.

How do you help my kids grow?

Children observe there surroundings and pick up the behavior of their instructors. We have instructors that are able to create an environment conducive to growth, positivity with an emphasis on team effort and kind behavior. In our classes we have created a sticker board where students as a team earn stickers and once they have reached a number they then earn a prize! Stickers are earned through kind acts such as offering to help someone or by stepping out of their comfort zone such as performing for the class, introducing themselves to someone new, etc.

How can I form my own group?

If you find our location to be too far for you and want to begin a class in a location near you we do that too! Grab five friends and you can start hosting the class in your house, we will commute to you! Your kids will perform and do all the same thing as the other students except drive to us!

How do Private Choreographies work?

Contact us to make your event a special one. Whether it’s a wedding, a saree/dhoti ceremony, Sweet 16, or even a graduation party! We help you to pick out the songs that are the most meaningful to you! We create a choreography based on what will be the best for you and bring out your talent! We are with you till the day you perform whether you text us asking for clarity on a step or want to meet an extra time, we have your back!

How do performances work?

Throughout the year we have approximately 3-7 performances depending on which batch you are in. When performance time rolls around you would begin by letting us know that your child is interested in performing. From there you would make sure your child is practicing on a daily basis and is ready to be on stage! Positions are completely up to the discretion of the instructor. A participation fee can be expected this is NOT from us, but the organization that is hosting the event. A final grand rehearsal will be conducted the day before the performance. This is MANDATORY! From there you will receive the costumes and meet at the event venue the next day! Class is usually CANCELED the day after the performance but is up to the discretion of the instructor.

How do costumes work?

Where most dance schools charge you an additional costume rental fee, we do NOT do that! We charge a $20 refundable deposit to ensure that we receive the costume back in the same condition we had given it to you! If a costume is too big we do allow you to stitch it but we require that you take out the stitches before returning the costume.

How does a trial class work?

Call us to schedule a free trial! If a student decides to join our regular classes the trial class is then considered to be the child’s first class.

What if I want my child to perform but they joined late?

While we always suggest joining in the beginning of the session by obtaining additional private one on one classes you can still see your child on stage!

How do missed classes work?

There is NO makeup classes for missed classes. If you are missing 2 classes in a row and let us know prior we will prorate the fees for that specific month.

What if there is a snow day?

On days of bad weather we will monitor the weather to ensure it is safe enough to get to class. If we perceive weather to be in bad condition we will let you know an hour prior to class. If class is cancelled due to weather condition there will be no refunds.
